What is Facebook Business Verification? Why is it required?

To get access to the WhatsApp Business API, it is recommended that you complete Facebook Business verification for your business. Verifying your business allows Meta to recognize you as the representative of a legal business entity. You are free to use the WhatsApp Business API as an unverified business, however, you will be limited to only 250 business-intiated conversations per day. Only after a business is verified, the messaging limit will be increased to 1,000 conversations per day. You can learn more about messaging limits and how to increase them in this article.

Am I eligible for Business Verification?

To check if you are eligible for Business verification, log into your Facebook Business account by going to https://business.facebook.com/.

Go to Meta Business Settings → Security Center

If your “Start verification” button is blue, then you are eligible for verification.

If the button is greyed out, check if your business information page is complete and if your 2-factor authentication is turned on.

What are the steps for Facebook Business Verification?

Log into your Facebook Business Manager account.

Go to Meta Business Settings → Security Center →  “Start Verification

A pop-up will appear to start the verification process. Click on “Get Started”

Select the country where your organization is located and add your organization details. Ensure that the details match your legal documents as you will have to submit them in the following step.

Select a preferred contact method through which Meta can verify your connection with your company. Email is the most popular and recommended choice here.

You must submit your legal documents in the next step to verify your legal name and address. You can add a maximum of two documents to each category. Check if the submitted documents match the details you entered in the previous window. Meta accepts .jpg, .png & .pdf file formats only.

Note: See which documents are accepted by Meta in your country here.

Finally, based on the chosen method of contact, you will be asked to confirm your identity.

  • Email: Enter the email address that matches your website domain. A confirmation code will be sent to your email. Enter the confirmation code to complete the process.

  • Phone call: You will receive the confirmation code through a call to your business phone number.

  • Text message: An SMS will be sent to your business phone number.

  • Domain verification: Meta recommends choosing this option only under specific conditions. This process will require the webmaster for your domain to place a special code on your website.

Once you successfully complete these steps, your business verification request will go under review. You can check the status of the review in the Security Center. Additionally, email notifications will be sent via email to the admins of the business account as and when there are updates on the review.
